When filing your taxes married, filing separately and itemizing deductions how you do this will depend on where you live. If you do not live in a community property state then you would just divide your deductions according to who made the donation.

If you made the donations from a joint checking account, then you each deduct half of the total charitable donation. However, you and your spouse must have an equal interest in the checking account.

If you alone made the donations then you can claim the entire deduction.
