Why you received IRS Notice CP161

  1. You filed a business tax return with a balance due.
  2. The IRS sent CP161 to notify you of the balance due and to request that the balance be paid in full by the deadline shown on the notice. If any previous payments are not reflected in the credits section of the notice, the IRS advises you to contact the number shown on the notice and request that the IRS research the missing payment.

Notice deadline: 10 days

If you miss the deadline: Additional penalties and interest will accrue.
