William Bryant Elementary School in Blue Springs Wins $13,000
A Thursday afternoon school-wide assembly at William Bryant elementary school had an unusual guest: a representative from H&R Block. He wasn’t there to talk to the kids about taxes, but to present a check to the school. Students at William Bryant earned the school $3,000 by participating in H&R Block’s nonprofit referral program. By making the most referrals among schools across Missouri participating in the challenge, the school won an additional $10,000.
“Being able to help out schools and other organizations in our area is exactly what H&R Block is all about,” said Jason Mann, regional director with H&R Block.
H&R Block contributed more than $1 million in donations for local nonprofits this year. Mann said he believes his office’s support for various organizations is an important part of being good neighbors in the Kansas City community.
“We not only work in this community, but we live, shop and volunteer here as well,” said Mann. “H&R Block is proud to be able to help William Bryant Elementary with a check for $13,000.”
Nonprofit organizations often see charitable donations increase toward the end of the year as taxpayers maximize their yearly tax deduction for donations. This program provides area nonprofits with an opportunity to raise funds at the beginning of the year when private donations traditionally decline.
In 2017, H&R Block’s nonprofit referral program contributed more than $1,000,000 to participating organizations. 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6), 501(c)(19) and 501(c)(23) organizations, such as schools, chambers and veterans organizations, are eligible for the program. Organizations may sign up now to benefit next year by contacting their local H&R Block or Block Advisors office or visiting www.hrblockreferrals.com.
