If the levy on your bank account or other account is creating an immediate economic hardship, the levy may be released. A levy release does not mean you are exempt from paying the balance. The IRS will work with you to establish a payment plan or take other steps to help you pay off the balance.<\/p>\n<h2>More from H&amp;R Block<\/h2>\n<p>If the IRS issues a levy on your wages, bank accounts or other property, you may qualify for a levy release, which will stop the levy.<\/p>\n<p>Request a levy release if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You paid your full tax balance.<\/li>\n<li>You set up an <a href=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/audits-and-tax-notices\/tax-dictionary-installment-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">installment agreement<\/a> with the IRS that doesn&#8217;t allow a levy.<\/li>\n<li>You can show that the levy is preventing you from paying your necessary living expenses.<\/li>\n<li>You can show that releasing the levy will make it easier for you to pay the taxes.<\/li>\n<li>The IRS issued the levy in error.<\/li>\n<li>The IRS is considering an <a href=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/audits-and-tax-notices\/tax-dictionary-offer-compromise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offer in compromise<\/a> that you have applied for.<\/li>\n<li>The IRS has run out of <a href=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/audits-and-tax-notices\/tax-dictionary-collection-statute-expiration-date\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">time to collect the taxes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/audits-and-tax-notices\/bill-for-unpaid-taxes\/\">Learn what to do if you have an unpaid tax bill or related complications like a levy.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IRS Definition If the levy on your wages is creating an immediate economic hardship, the levy must be released.
