State income tax differ from federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/tax-brackets-and-rates\/what-are-the-tax-brackets\/\">taxes on income<\/a> and varies by state. They are either based on a percentage of your income or imposed as a flat tax rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you earn an income in Arizona, read up about Arizona taxes and your obligation to pay them\u2014including how much you have to pay, when they\u2019re due, and how to pay them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-pays-arizona-income-tax\"><strong>Who pays Arizona income tax? <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-51414 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Arizona-state-taxes-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Arizona State Taxes\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Arizona-state-taxes-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Arizona-state-taxes.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like the federal government, residents pay Arizona state taxes on income or earnings if you have a sufficient connection to the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arizona residents must file a state income tax return if they are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Single, Married Filing Separately or Head of Household and the Arizona Adjusted Gross Income (AAGI) is at least $5,500, or the Gross Income (GI) is at least $15,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Married and filing jointly and the AAGI is at least $11,000, or the GI is at least $15,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you earn an income in Arizona, you must pay Arizona income taxes. For example, as a traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/form-w2\/\">W-2 employee<\/a>, your Arizona state tax will be drawn on each payroll period automatically. You will see this on your paycheck, near or next to the federal taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Income taxes aren\u2019t the only taxes in Arizona. In fact, if you own property in Arizona, you are subject to Arizona property taxes. (Arizona property taxes on owner-occupied residences are levied based on the\u00a0assessed value, not current market value.)
