If you\u2019re wondering what is Form 1095-B, we have an answer for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-form-1095-b\">&#8220;What is Form 1095-B?&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let\u2019s define \u201cWhat is Form 1095-B?\u201d Officially titled, Form 1095-B, Health Coverage, this is the universal form for healthcare coverage not identified on Form <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/what-is-form-1095-a\/\">1095-A <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/form-1095-c\/\">1095-C<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following types of healthcare coverage are listed on Form 1095-B:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Private insurance companies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Government-sponsored programs, like:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Basic Health Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage administered by the Department of Veteran Affairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage for Peace Corps volunteers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicaid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TRICARE<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-insured employers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smaller employers (with less than 50 employees)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HRAs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s what the IRS calls an information return, and you may use the information reported on the document on your individual tax return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-tax-form-1095-b-report\">What does Tax Form 1095-B report?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tax Form 1095-B reports the month(s) you had health insurance coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/hrbcomlnp.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Form-1095-B-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56539\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Part I: Identifies the personal information of the person that is responsible for the plan (the person whose name is on the plan)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part II: Includes information about certain employer-sponsored healthcare programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part III: Has issuer or other coverage provider information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part IV: Includes form fields where the insurer provides more information about the individuals covered by the plan, including their name, Social Security number or TIN, date of birth. Then the insurer checks the months where coverage was provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tax-history-of-form-1095-b\">Tax history of Form 1095-B<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Affordable Care Act, you were required to have minimum essential healthcare insurance coverage for each month out of the year \u2014 or a healthcare exemption for qualifying individuals. If you didn\u2019t have the coverage, you incurred a healthcare tax penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting in 2019, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/tax-reform\/tax-cuts-and-jobs-act\">Tax Cuts and Jobs Act<\/a> undid the federal healthcare penalty. But, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/guide-to-form-1095\/\">1095 form<\/a> series still exists to summarize healthcare coverage for individuals. (You will get Form 1095-A, Form 1095-B, or Form 1095-C based on who provided your health insurance coverage.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-get-my-1095-b-form\">How do I get my 1095-B form?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The entity providing the healthcare coverage will send Form 1094-B to the IRS \u2014 and you will get a copy (Form 1095-B). Copies are sent by insurers by March 1 each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-get-my-form-1095-b-from-a-government-sponsored-program\">How do I get my Form 1095-B from a government-sponsored program?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you question \u201chow do I get my Form 1095-B from Medicare online?\u201d\u2014 here\u2019s the answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may receive Form 1095-B from Medicare via mail.
