Scholarships \u2013 including ones that cover room and board \u2013 are considered income subject to taxes. However, it\u2019s income for your child, so your child will be the one entering that income on their own return.<\/p>\n

Is a Scholarship for Room and Board Tax Deductible?<\/h2>\n

Donors who contribute to a scholarship fund may be able to take a deduction. However, if your child is the recipient of a scholarship, it\u2019s considered taxable income. This includes scholarships that cover room and board.<\/p>\n

When your child uses our H&R Block Software<\/a> program to prepare their return, here\u2019s where to enter scholarships used for room and board:<\/p>\n
