Check to make sure the software isn&#8217;t installed on any other drive.<\/li>\n<li>You need Administrative Privileges to install the software update. You might not have the necessary permissions to update your H&amp;R Block Tax Software if you&#8217;re using a workplace computer or laptop.<\/li>\n<li>Recent Windows updates that haven&#8217;t been completely installed can cause problems updating. Restart your computer and try again, especially if you&#8217;ve just updated Windows.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes, H&amp;R Block will not update if you have any antivirus or firewall software running. Close these programs and try updating again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>H&amp;R Block Still Will Not Update on Windows<\/h2>\n<p>If your H&amp;R Block Tax Software will not update on Windows after you\u2019ve tried all of the steps above, you can install updates manually by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-software\/updates-back-editions.html\">downloading them<\/a> from the <strong>H&amp;R Block Tax Software Update Center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For a federal update:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Under the <strong>Federal Updates\u00a0<\/strong>section, click <strong>Windows Program Updates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>From the drop-down list, choose the product version and click <strong>Download Update<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Save the update file to your desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Close the H&amp;R Block Tax Software program.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click the <strong>.exe\u00a0<\/strong>file, then click <strong>Run as Administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions displayed by the update program to complete the installation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For a state update:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Under the <strong>State Updates\u00a0<\/strong>section, click <strong>Windows Program Updates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>From the drop-down list, choose the appropriate state program, then click <strong>Download Update<\/strong>.
